this is the house that jack built...

...erm, Jay. Jay built it. Jay Shafer. They're called Tumbleweed Homes and they are these teeny tiny little houses that are extremely energy and cost-efficient. The smallest line of them can be transported by truck to pretty much anywhere and are legally recognized as an RV, so you can set up house in many a locale.

When I first saw them I was like - "That's insane. No one in their right minds would live like that." But now, I gotta admit it: Why not? Besides the whole They're Dang Cute factor, there is something to be said about living as efficiently and simply as possible. It'd be that much more difficult to be materialistic when you have no place for said materials. And, as your family grows, you can find a good permanent location and add on to the house, bit by bit. Idealistic? Sure. So practical it's impractical? Maybe. But I tell ya, I'm more than a little enamored with it right now.

Dude, why are we looking for a place to live next year when the answer is so totally in front of us?

I think my friend and her husband live in one of these. They own a small house, but rent it out and live in this with a big backyard for growing vegetables. I don't think this would work if you want a piano or desktop for editing though....
